First, we recommend having a tape measure, a level, and a pencil when installing signs. For extra heavy signs, you might want to add a silicone adhesive to make sure that it is secure. However, a majority of our ADA signs will have foam tapes strips, which will be sufficient.

Next, you’ll need to determine where to hang your signs. In order to install ADA compliant signs, you should avoid hanging your signs directly on the door. According to the ADA, the center of all wall-mounted signs should be installed 60 inches from the finished floor. Signs located near the door must be mounted on the latch side of the door within 2-3 inches of the door jamb. If there is not enough room on the latch side of the door, you will need to find the nearest adjacent wall.

Once again, the center of your custom sign needs to be 60 inches from the floor. So, measure the height of your sign, and divide it by 2. Take that number and subtract it from 60 inches. This will tell you where the bottom of your sign should be. So if your sign is 4 inches high, then the bottom of your sign will be a 58 inches from the floor. Then measure 2-3” from the door frame.
